The Alluvial Fan is a reminder of the awesome power water has to shape the landscape. Today, this easy hike is a popular destination when journeying up Fall River Road, and is well worth the stop.
Approach the waterfall at Alluvial Fan from either the west or the east. Large parking lots are located roughly a quarter-mile away on either end on the north side of Fall River Road. These trails used to be handicap accessible, but a recent flood in 2013 whipped them out. Now, it's a short but rugged hike to the falls area. The trail crosses Roaring River just below a beautiful waterfall. There are many places to safely negotiate the crossing. While this could be a very quick stop, it’s easy to spend multiple hours exploring up the river, having lunch, or just playing in the water. This is a great spot for families that want to see some of the park while having space for kids to play.
