Despite its immediate proximity to multiple park highlights, such as Skull Rock and Jumbo Rocks Campground, the Live Oak picnic area might just be the most overlooked spot to stop for a bit to eat in the entire park. Nine tables are distributed into four private nooks in the rock, making this a secluded spot to rest even with Park Boulevard just to the north. A pit toilet along with garbage and recycling is found at the entrance to the picnic area. Take some time to explore the wash and rocks to the south before you head off -- one of the best things about Joshua Tree is all the hidden gems throughout the park!
